Muzita Abyssinian Bistro

Finally, a food entry! Ok, long story short, last night for the boy's birthday, we went to have dinner at Muzita Abyssinian Bistro in University Heights. Best decision of the week. Food was amazing, service was amazing, ambiance was amazing. Despite the rain and difficulty in finding parking, it was an awesome night.

Best wine I've had in my life (granted I haven't had a lot of wine yet in my life). Ethiopian honey wine. Fermented honey with spices. Really seriously good, and strong!

Our waiter was this fabulously awesome guy named Roberto. We let him order for us and here's what he came up with: slow braised leg of lamb in the back, spiced chicken in front. Collard greens on the right, spiced red lentils on the left. Green salad center.

All of the food was resting on a piece of spongy sour-dough-like flat bread called injera. The two rolled up things on the sides are also injera. There's no utensils, you just tear pieces of the bread and grab your food with it. A-MAZING!

You might not be able to tell from the picture, but it was a LOT of food. We stuffed our faces and still couldn't finish everything. Total of the bill was ~$46 with two entrees and two drinks. Worth every penny. While it is definitely out of the range of daily food price for a poor student budget, it is great for special occasions... I think we will be revisiting when we have the time and money to spare.

  1. I am so glad you enjoyed my family restaurant. Roberto has been with us from the day we opened (2.5 years)...he is very knowledgeable about the cuisine and culture.

It is true our prices are a bit higher but my mom (her recipe and is in charge in the kitchen) expects that we use organic, natural fed and locally grown ingredients to make dishes that are reminiscent of the old country.

    Hope to see you soon.
