Korea Tofu House, Cupertino, CA

This is a super back-post because I went to this restaurant June 16th. My posts are all out of order. Oh well.

The Hungry Engineering Student and I were in Bay Area for about half a week post-graduation to visit my mom. It happens that HES's old suitemate, who also recently graduated, were back home in San Jose so we decided to meet up for lunch.

Located in a large Asian store complex, the restaurant is simply called Korea Tofu House. Yelp reviews seemed mediocre at only three stars, but considering the overall high quality of Asian cuisine available in the Bay Area, it's still probably better than anything we get in San Diego. It's a decent sized place, not too crowded for lunch on a Wednesday. The menu consisted of typical
Korean dishes: hot plate bbq's, bibimbap, and of course, stone pot tofu. Although there was a good selection of tofus, I was disappointed that most of them do not come with veggies, like the once we have in SD. Despite that, I still had hope.

One thing I really like about Korean restaurants is that they always give you complementary appetizers, mostly pickles and in this case, also fried fish! This is definitely better than anything I've gotten from the restaurants here in SD. A good sign. We got free refills on some of these too, not that we were able to eat that much food anyway.

Although the food came out pretty quickly, we were starving by then. HES ordered a tofu/bbq combo.

The bbq short-ribs was good! For a combo, it came with quite a few pieces. They were not very fatty meat either and cooked to the right tenderness.

I got myself a dolso bibimbap (hot stone rice bowl), it came with good amounts of fresh veggies and bbq beef.

Here it is all stirred up with some spicy sauce. Mmmmm

Hot stone tofus comes with rice, HES's rice arrived in a stone bowl too! All the other places I've been to just serve it in a small metal bowl. This is pretty sweet.

We scarfed down our food like proper hungry students and left pretty satisfied. Overall, the food was decent, albeit a little pricey. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it's clean, the service was nice, and you won't leave hungry. There seems to be a lot of nice Asian restaurants around the complex though, must explore more next time.
