Ramen rampage: Santouka San Diego
If you're a hungry college student, most of the time you'll be strapped for cash. One of my favorite student eats is a nice bowl of ramen. It's a fast, yummy, and relatively healthy choice (healthy compared to regular fast food). There are only a few (like three) ramen places in San Diego near where I live. All of them around Convoy, the "Asian" district. The region mostly cater to college kids from UCSD, which, if you don't know, is mostly Asian (like 40%), myself included. One of the "better" ramen shops is
located inside the Mitsuwa market. I put better in quotes because although it's one of the best in San Diego, it doesn't really compare to the ones in LA area. In general, my boyfriend (the Hungry Engineering Student) and I have noticed (and hypothesized) that things in San Diego are just suckier compared to LA and SF. Anyways, complaints aside, Santouka Ramen in San Diego is just one of many branches of this chain store, the best of which is rumored to be located somewhere in LA (on Centinela) and Torrance. Average price for a standard bowl of ramen cost between $7.00 to $9.00.
HES's miso ramen...
...and my spicy miso ramen.
NOM NOM NOM
Delicious salty creamy soup? Yes. Warm chewy tangled noodles? Yes. Slices of flavored semi-fatty pork? Yes. What more could a hungry student ask for? (Maybe some veggies to unclog our young arteries.)
